Who We Are

WORD is a dynamic and diverse organization that includes classroom teachers, reading specialists, consultants, administrators, supervisors, college teachers, researchers, psychologists, librarians, media specialists, students, and parents. WORD has more than2,400 members in Washington and is affiliated with the International Reading Association.

We support the goals of the International Reading Association in professional development, advocacy, partnerships, research, and leadership in global issues.

Our Goals

Our goal is the promotion of literacy through the following activities:

  • Conferences through which we share ideas for the successful teaching of reading, writing speaking, and listening.
     
  • Sharing the latest research in literacy teaching and learning through our conferences and various publications.
     
  • Local, statewide and international projects and activities to attack illiteracy wherever it is found.

What is IRA?

IRA is the International Reading Association, a professional educational organization for individuals who promote the advancement of literacy worldwide.
