Outstanding local councils are awarded the  WORD Apple Award.
 
Criteria

Nominees will be judged by evidence found within the application on the following categories:

Required Items
    (Four items are required)

1. Council leaders attended WORD Leadership Workshop in Spring.

2. Council is represented by President or assigned delegate at all WORD board
meetings.

3. Names of the council officers submitted to state coordinator. All officers are members of IRA.

4. Membership update submitted to WORD Director of Membership by December
1st.

Optional Items
    (SIX optional items are required)

1. Invite an Executive Committee member to a council function.

2. Contribute to the Florence Sperling Scholarship Fund.

3. Submit awards nominations to the Awards & Recognition Chair by designated date.

4. Present a Celebrate Literacy Award and submit name of the recipient to the WORD Awards & Recognition Chair.

5. Have a representative from your council on a WORD Conference Committee or as a speaker/presenter at a WORD Conference.

6. Host or co-host a WORD Board Meeting.

7. Send council bylaws to the State Coordinator (or verify on file).

8. Participate in current IRA Honor Council.

9. Submit "Council News" to WORD Newsletter.

10. Increase membership from March to March.

11. Volunteer for a state sponsored activity.

12. Related Literacy Activity.
 

Procedures for Nomination

For the WORD Apple Award, print, or cut and paste, the nomination form and return completed form to Terry Young by April 14, 2006.
